Amla After Henna

One of the major things that has kept me from trying henna has been my concern about curl retention.  I know amla can help to reverse the effects a bit, but I don't want to add it to my mix as I don't want it to come out brown.  If I apply some sort of treatment with a small amount of amla after I henna, will it turn the color brown?  If so, how long should I wait to minimize the risk of that happening?  My hair is already dark brown, I want the red from the henna to show, not blend in with my natural color.

Amla alone does not produce a dye. It wont change the color of your henna if you apply it after you henna, however, I dont know that it will restore your curl by itself.

I dont think amla alone with henna is going to make it brown. Its going to reduce the orange, but it wont make it brown. You need buxus or indigo to get brown.

But if you're concerned, strand test.

I agree, amla won't make henna turn your hair brown. On dark brown hair I doubt if you'll see any difference between henna alone and henna/amla - or amla after henna, for that matter.

Thanks Carrie and ACWN!  I'm glad to hear that I won't have to worry about the color so much.
