Backstory
So I started using Henna in early 2009. I used some brand (can't remember which) a friend bought from an Indian/Arabic store. I think I remember saying it was 'Auburn' or something, but it was a while ago so I don't remember. I may have used that once once more. However, after that I started to use some powder I was buying from a local indian store, which seemed pretty pure (ie it didn't have different types of "colours" etc). I then started going to an Indian lady who would henna my hair for me, so I don't know where she got her product but I assumed it was okay. The last product I've used is Certified Organic from Natureshop.com.au (the lady only lives a couple of suburbs away from me).
My issue is that in late 2009 I started to get fatigue and since then I haven't been able to work out exactly what my problem is. I've thought now and then that maybe I could have got a hold of some dodgy Henna with metalic salts (especially concerned about the "Auburn" henna mentioned earlier). It's just one piece of my health puzzle I'd like to eliminate.
Because of my concerns, even though I'm pretty sure the Henna I used last is safe, I haven't used Henna in over 6 months (major roots! but luckily they don't look real bad).
I already cut samples of hair months ago to test, but haven't gotten around to it because I never had the right peroxide or ammonia. My sister has some (she's not so into natural things like I am, lol) but she's only got 10, 30 and 40 volume peroxide (yes, lucky me, not 20) and a powder she mixes with this she calls "bleach".
I was avoiding testing my samples because I didn't want to go buying these nasty products when I wasn't going to use them (besides my small tests).
Anyway, onto my questions.
Questions
Are there any other ways (besides the recipe on http://www.hennaforhair.com/science/) to check for metallic salts in hair samples?
Is there any way to test my actual henna powder for metallic salts before I use it on my hair?
Thanks!
I ended up using a mix of my sisters 10 and 30 (roughly 2 thirds 10, 1 third 30) volume peroxide with a bleach powder she's used called Hi-Lift which contained ammonia, just not sure how much.
I didn't get any other reaction besides a lightening, so I assume it's fine :)
