Accessible article about 'Why Gentlemen prefer blondes'

The Guardian has published an interesting article about the various scientific theories which seek to understand sexual preference for blonde hair in terms of evolutionary biology.

I'm not convinced by the assertion that preference for blonde women is related to paternity assurance in prehistoric communities. I don't think that there would have been enough people living long enough, with enough knowledge of what was happening in their society to link eye colour and progeny. Perhaps later on in history e.g. Mendel's experiments which put forward the theory of recessive and dominant genes took place relatively recently between 1865 and 1866, and were really only adopted from 1900 onwards.

What do you think?
